Marty Welch was appointed CEO of HEMIC in August of 2012, bringing over 30 years of Workers’ Compensation and Commercial Property & Casualty insurance experience to his position. Marty previously served as President and Chief Operating Officer for Employers Holdings, Inc., a publicly traded Workers’ Compensation specialty carrier based in Reno, NV and operating in 30 states.
Prior to Employers Holdings, Marty spent 25 years with the former Wausau Insurance Companies, a national multi-line insurer, serving in various underwriting, marketing, management, and executive roles. Marty currently serves as a member of the Executive Advisory Committee for PCI, sits on the Board of the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai`i and is the Chairman of the Board for the Arthritis Foundation of Hawai`i.
Marty earned his undergraduate degree in Finance from the University of Illinois and he is a Chartered Property & Casualty Underwriter. Marty and his wife Jennifer reside in Honolulu and they have three grown sons.
Jason Yoshimi has over 20 years of successful experience in the insurance and accounting profession, and has spent the last 16 years as a licensed Certified Public Accountant. His current responsibilities focus on the direction, oversight and management of HEMIC’s Finance and Accounting, Investments, Compliance and Information Services staff.
A graduate of Chaminade University of Honolulu, he received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting in 1992, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Upon graduating, Jason worked at several Hawai`i CPA firms with concentrated work in financial auditing and compliance, and systems and internal controls consulting.
Prior to joining HEMIC, Todd Nacapuy served in the public sector as Chief Information Officer in the State of Hawai`i’s Office of Enterprise Technology Services. Appointed by Governor David Ige, Todd led the state’s technology team, putting systems and resources in place for a more effective, efficient and open government. He developed statewide initiatives to leverage economies of scale and reduce waste, including implementing a “paperless” environment and accelerating the State’s move to a single communications platform to provide long-term budget sustainability, fortified security, expanded applications and services, and tools for collaboration.
Prior to serving with the State, Todd had a successful career as an entrepreneur, then joined Microsoft as Senior Technical Account Manager tasked with the mission to “modernize Hawai`i”. Todd is a graduate of Seattle University and Waialua High School.
Tammy Teixeira joined the HEMIC organization in March of 2013, bringing 27 years of Workers’ Compensation and Commercial P&C insurance experience with her. Tammy is responsible for our Agency Management, Customer Service, Corporate Marketing and Corporate Communications functions. She is also responsible for achieving top-line revenue goals for our organization through the development of new markets, customers and products, as well as through the sale of additional products to existing customers. She serves as President of HEMIC Insurance Managers, Inc. (HIMI) and as President of Employers’ Protective Insurance Company (EPIC). Previously, Tammy held the position of Business Development Manager for SeaBright Insurance Company, a publicly traded workers’ compensation specialty carrier.
Tammy is the Vice Chairperson of the Hawai`i Insurers Council and a Founding Officer for Kids Chance of Hawai`i. She was born and raised in Hawai`i, studied at Hawai`i Pacific University, and has worked in the Hawai`i insurance market her entire career.
Regina Harris joined the HEMIC organization in January, 2014 and leads Underwriting and Premium Audit. Regina has over 26 years of experience in the workers’ compensation insurance industry, most recently providing process improvement consulting services to industry clients.
From May 1999 to November 2011, Regina served with EMPLOYERS in various executive management positions, most recently as Vice President, Underwriting and Product Management, from November 2008 to November 2011. Prior to that time, she served as Vice President, Project Management Office and other various underwriting leadership positions. Regina was Assistant Vice President with AmGRIP, Inc. from March 1992 to May 1999, providing underwriting and process improvement consulting services to clients.
Regina holds a certification as a Project Management Professional.
Milia Leong joined HEMIC’s leadership team, bringing over 20 years of workers’ compensation claims and leadership experience to her role as Vice President of Claim and Medical Management Services. Prior to HEMIC, she was the Vice President of Claim and Medical Management Services at John Mullen and Company, an independent multi-line adjusting firm that handles claims for companies both locally and nationwide. Milia has also worked for Inter Island Adjusting Company, Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific and Kailua Physical Therapy.
Milia is Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Committee of the Hawai`i Insurers Council. She is also President of Kids’ Chance of Hawai`i, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping children affected by a catastrophic workplace injury to achieve their higher educational goals. Born and raised in Hawai`i, Milia has also served as past-President of the Hawai`i Claims Association. She attended Kapiolani Community College studying nursing and is a Kailua High School graduate.
Faye Bueno has been a member of HEMIC’s staff since its inception in 1996. Hired as Administration Manager, she currently serves as the organizations Vice President of Administration and serves as the Executive Secretary to HEMIC’s Board of Directors.
Faye’s prior work experience includes Human Resources at both Hawaiian Grocery Stores and Host Marriott. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Hawai`i, and attained her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation in 2005.
Faye is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management at both the National and Local levels.
Sarah comes to HEMIC from American Savings Bank (ASB), where she served as Senior Vice President of Organizational Development, including Talent Management, Culture, Organizational Effectiveness and Leadership Development. At ASB, Sarah led the change management and teammate readiness strategies related to the construction of ASB’s new downtown Honolulu campus.
Before joining ASB, Sarah led the internal HR function at ProService Hawaii where she implemented employee engagement-focused programs. Prior to ProService, she spent six years leading the academic portion of the Hawai`i Job Corps Program in Waimanalo, HI. Working together with a team of educators, Sarah designed curricula to help at-risk youth earn the math, reading and academic credentials needed for further education.
Sarah holds a Master’s Degree from Washington State University, her home state.
Paul Naso oversees all HEMIC legal matters, including but not limited to Litigation Management, Corporate and Regulatory Compliance, In-house Employment related issues, and a wide variety of transactional issues involving Contract Drafting and Negotiation. Paul also advises HEMIC’s Executive Management Team on all company related matters.
In addition to his General Counsel role, Paul leads HEMIC’s Government Affairs effort.
Paul brings to HEMIC over 20 years of legal experience in the insurance area in both litigation and transactional capacities. He also acquired extensive business experience, prior to his legal career, serving in key management positions with several start up companies in the textile industry.
Paul earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the University of San Francisco, School of Law.
